Past Costumes - My Raven

I'm going to be honest. The very first time I heard anything about Edgar Allen Poe's The Raven was on an episode of The Simpsons. It's still one of my favorite episodes. I love it so much that the Bart Simpson raven is one my planned tattoos.
This costume was not something that was overly planned. It just sort of came together. I usually have my Halloween costumes planned out months in advance. This year I had almost no inspiration.. It wasn't until I found this cool mask (there is a name for it. I know the name. It's on the tip of my tongue. But I for the life of me cannot spit it out. Feel free to comment and scold me) that I came up with a raven idea. I bought the mask and some black wings and a black blouse. I didn't want to go totally "bird" I wanted it to be a bit alternative. My best-est besty did my makeup. She gave me a kick ass smokey eye and then she did this really cool lacey thing. I just love how it turned out. I felt wonderful in this makeup!

Craft Day - Homer Doughnut Hat

Over the summer, I saw a picture online of a sun hat painted to look like a doughnut. I showed it to my daughter and she immediately said "You should paint Homer on it! He loves doughnuts!" I thought she was a genius and agreed the hat needed some Homer. I got the sunhat from the dollar store for 10 bucks. Just a warning before you start this project, these hats eat paint. I used way more than I originally expected to. Making this hat was very simple.

First I painted the top of the hat yellow. Then I painted a wide pink ring around the brim of the hat. I wanted my frosting to be pink because Homer loves pink frosted doughnuts. You can make your frosting whatever color you like.

Next paint on small rectangular shapes in a rainbow of colors to make sprinkles.June 22, 2014 (10)
Next I painted on two large white circles for eyes. After the white dries, outline the circles with black paint and add a black dot in the center of each white circle.

Next I painted ears. I put them at the bottom center of each side of the hat. For the hair, I painted two black lines across the very top of the hat and a black zigzag design around the backside of the head going from one ear to the other.

So yea....

I know I'm not perfect with grammar and spelling but I do try. This makes me happy and it is one of my new favorite things.

Countdown to Halloween - Pumpkin Friday

I love Jack-O-Lanterns. I Love love love them! So every Friday until Halloween I will be showing off my past pumpkins!
These are from many a year ago when I had no real creativity of my own and used only the stencils in the book. My favorite one of the bunch is the tree with branches that spell out "Happy Halloween"

Baby Space

While we are planning on moving, we did not have the time to make it happen before our newest munchkin arrived. We have no extra rooms so that meant that the cutie would be bunking with mom and dad. I set up a little corner of our room just for him. These photos make me laugh because we’ve lived here for just about 8 years now and I have done pretty much nothing to decorate our room but now the corner is all set up for our baby :)
Before. This photo of course includes all of the supplies I used to make up our munchkins corner. This part of the room would normally be empty. Not trashed. Haha!

After. Notice how our side of the room has no décor… The older kids room is fully decorated and we change their room a couple times a year. And I do nothing for myself. This is what motherhood has done to me :) Haha!July 20, 2014 (2)
That crazy red spot is fabric dye, not blood. When my oldest was 2, she ripped a small bag of red open and poured it all over herself. It took two weeks to get it off of her. It never came off of the carpet. July 20, 2014 (3)July 20, 2014 (4)July 20, 2014 (5)
I painted these myself. I have a few more super heroes but the area really only looked good with four. I will probably switch these around too as my older son has not yet decided which super heroes he wants in his room.  July 20, 2014 (6)
The bottom photo is our oldest. The middle photo is our middle child. I look forward to getting a matching photo of our new munchkin to put on the wall with them. The art was a gift from my best friend over five years ago when I had my middle son. I’m finally putting it to use.

I really really like how this corner turned out. It is my favorite part of our bed room and has inspired me to finally decorate for me. I’ll post on that when the room is finished.

About me!

What better way to start a new blog than by filling out one of those boring "about me" posts I'm secretly sure nobody reads. It was not my intent to make this super long... but that's how it turned out  :)

First up, I use  :)  <--- that smiley face symbol waaaaay too much. I know this about me and I have tried to stop but it keeps popping up everywhere in my text, e-mails and tweets. You will grow to hate it like my friends do and I'm sorry.

I'm a photographer. It is one of things that makes me happiest. I am pretty shy by nature but if you put a camera around my neck, I can speak to anybody. Photography is like therapy. The right photo can heal all. The camera is just the coolest invention ever! My camera is my baby. I have 3 kids, 2 dogs and a turtle but the camera is my baby.

I am married to my college sweety. This past December was our ten year anniversary. We have three kids (Berti, Lolo & Thor).  We have two big dogs, Beau and Beethoven. They are the most amazing mutts in the world. We also have a turtle name Elroy... he's kind of a jerk :)

We live in the middle of nowhere. We like country living. I know that almost NOTHING I love or post about will ever give you the impression that I'm a country girl but this small town life really does suite us.

I am the oldest of eight kids. And honestly, I regret allowing my parents to breed as much as they did. I really feel like I could have used the extra attention as a child. Haha, kidding guys :)

I don't brush my hair. I know this sounds crazy since my hair is pretty long now, but it's true. I shampoo, condition, towel dry and I'm on my way. The only time I will actually use a brush is if I am styling my hair for a special event... so that's maybe like twice a year.
My best job ever (Before I became a photographer of course) was working at a pizza place. I could make pizzas all day. I love making my own pizzas at home and I still think being in a kitchen all day would be a great plan b for me. Fun Fact: I love making pizzas but I hate eating it. I think I overdosed on it when I was younger. I really have to be in the mood for it now.

I'm a tad bit totally crazy... but I'd like to think it's in the fun way.

I have a twisted sense of humor. Pretty much from this point on, know that if something I say sounds horrible, it was meant as a joke. My jokes can get a tad dark and it is hard to type sarcasm.

I wish there was a sarcasm font.

I love Winter! Snow makes me happy! I don't dislike the other seasons. I am also happy in the sun and I love the smell of flowers, but I get a special feeling when snow falls down that just makes me tingly all over.

I knit, crochet, sew, quilt, draw, paint, and make my own jewelry.

I collect journals. I use them for everything from grocery lists to sketchbooks. Some are simple and cheap. Others are a bit pricey and very intricately decorated. I use most of them but there are a few that I think are too fancy and therefore have not been able to touch them for fear of ruining them... did I mention that I'm a bit crazy?

I'm obsessed with: Dinosaurs, Robots, Skulls, Scary Movies, Disney Movies, Futurama, Fantasy Television Shows, Super Heroes (some more than others, some a lot less), Tattoos and Tattoo Art, Lollipops and My Camera (Seriously, It's like my first child)
The only Halloween I ever celebrated as a kid was when I was six. We lived in a small community of mostly seniors that my mom says was basically a cult. Since my parents were the only ones with kids, it was insisted that we go trick or treating. My brother and I went as crayons (I also had another sister and baby brother but I have no memory of their existence at this point, sorry guys) My dad wrapped us in cardboard that we had colored all over. We couldn't bend so he had to lift us up and lay us down in the car. I sort of remember me being on the seat and my brother lying on the floor (don't try this at home kiddos) I loved it! My parents never let me dress up or go trick or treating ever again... It became one of those "it's the devil" (Waterboy!) things. My aunts agree that this is probably the reason I am so obsessed with dressing up now.

If you haven't noticed from the photos or if maybe you are new to the blog and chose to come here first, I'm a plus sized girl. So most of the makeups/costumes you see will be on my big butt. If this upsets you, please don't waste your time sending me nasty comments. Nobody is forcing you to look at my photos. There are loads of beautiful girls with sites of a similar topic as mine. Go look at theirs to make you happy. Negative comments won't change what I look like and make me magically fit.

That being said I do love comments and I take constructive criticism very well so by all means, let me know if you think I should have done something differently or if there is a better/faster way to do what I'm doing. I love learning new things.
Enjoy my blog and if you'd like to contact me or follow me, I'm at these places:

Hello Lovelies!

My name is Jessie. You may know me from Twitter, Instagram, facebook, my photography, my crochet, or just my personal blog.

Welcome to yet another place on the internet I thought I'd invade!

I am a lover of Crafts, Costumes, Nail Art and Makeup.
I have been obsessed with Halloween since my parents wouldn't let me celebrate it ( not cool mom) and I spend most of my adult life thinking about what costumes/makeups I want to do next. I do fun makeups at least once a month but until now, I have always kept them to myself. With this blog, I want to post fun projects, nail arts and costume makeups I am working on for me, my friends, my adorable kids and sometimes even my dogs  :)
And I would love to hopefully make some like minded friends along the way.
Enjoy :)

disclaimer: I am NOT a professional artist. I have no training. I look at photos and try to replicate ideas, and I learn things from online tutorials. I probably won't ever post my own tutorials but I will answer any and all questions asked about what I do. Also if you see me doing something and you have a better/faster way to do it or a better product to use, please share. I love to learn new things and I take criticism really well :)
